Spotlight: Dance For You – Beyoncé

Beyoncé has made up for the lackluster I Am… Sash Fierce with the excellent 4. While the 12-song set is strong enough on its own, B has included 4 bonus tracks to accompany the record, and luckily out of the 72 tracks she submitted to her label (Yes, 72!! I know.), “Dance For You” made the cut. For fans of Beyoncé’s more sensual numbers (“Speechless”, “Still In Love (Kissing You)”), this one is for you. On the number, B sings “This is beyond sex, I’m high on you”, and we’re all high on this number.

Overdue: Happy Birthday Queen B

I just want to let them all know that my birthday is on the 26th.

Beyoncé: WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Beyonc+2The one and only, Mrs Knowles is this year’s recipient of Billboard’s Woman Of The Year Award. Here’s an excerption:
“Billboard announced today (Aug. 25) that Beyoncé will be accepting its Woman Of The Year Award at the 2009 Billboard Women In Music Event, taking place on Oct. 2 in New York City.
The honor, given to a female recording artist that has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas, will be awarded to the singer for her accomplishments over the past 12 months.

In the last year, Beyoncé kicked off her world tour “I Am…” in support of her third solo album “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in November and features the hit singles “If I Were A Boy,” “Single Ladies,” “Halo,” “Ego” and “Sweet Dreams.”

“Beyoncé is multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman Of The Year Award was created to honor,” said Bill Werde, Billboard’s Editorial Director, about Beyoncé, who is the only performer in the 51-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to top the chart for 10 weeks or more with a group and as a solo artist. “She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes.”

The Billboard Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business and is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.”

Sound Off: Kelly Clarkson’s Already Gone vs. Beyoncé’s Halo

After Kelly Clarkson said “Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else. He’s from Oklahoma, I’m from Texas; we got along really well and had some of the same influences. We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album. It was all fine and dandy. I’d never heard of a song called Halo. Her album came out when my album was already being printed. No-one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, ‘I don’t understand. Why would you do that?

Ryan Tedder recently said “Already Gone” is one of the best song I’ve written or produced since “Bleeding Love” and stands tall on it’s own merits apart from “Halo”. They are two entirely different songs conceptually, melodically, & lyrically and I would never try to dupe an artist such as Kelly Clarkson or Beyoncé into recording over the same musical track, the idea is both hurtful & absurd. I think when people hear “Already Gone” they will hear what I hear-one of the greatest female vocalists on earth giving her most haunting and heart-breaking performance on a song she helped write. I challenge people to listen and form their own opinions“.

I personally think they don’t sound THAT similar to each other, but all of Tedder’s productions sound alike. But I can see why Kelly would be mad, she raved about Already Gone before her or Beyoncé’s album were released, and was very proud of her work with Tedder.

HellHathNoFuryLikeALionessScornedHell hath no fury like a woman scorned“, ever heard that saying before? Yes? good, so you know what this list is all about. Beyoncé Overload

beyonce6.jpgThere is no doubt that Beyoncé is THE best performer of our time, the only one who mastered the dance-and-sing combination perfectly. Anyways, this week I have been listening to a lot of her songs, whether solo or with DC. Here’s my Beyoncé playlist (for now):

Ring The Alarm
Her “fiercest” song, and the most anger-fueled one. It remains one of her best singles to date.

Why Don’t You Love Me
I have blogged about this song for oh-so-many times, and I still think more people should be aware of its amazingness. LISTEN TO IT.

Suga Mama
Damn, that was so good, I wanna buy him a short-set“, I’ve loved it when B’Day came out, and it still has its magic!

Hip Hop Star
Pure playas, pure playas“, I wish Beyoncé would release a quality album like her first one, but oh well.

Freakum Dress
This is a silly song, but it’s a silly song I love.

oh and add to that list “Nasty Girl“.

Nostalgia: Nasty Girl – Destiny’s Child

One of my all-time favorite songs and one of DC’s best. I love semi-breakdown at 1:40 and of course my favorite line “cleavage from here to Mexico“.
It’s the PERFECT song for the summer, you know..? They should just blast this song all over Kuwait 🙂

Song Of The Day

iamSong: Why Don’t You Love Me
Artist: Beynocé
Album: I Am… Sasha Fierce
In short: The bonus track on B’s album, which I think is better than all of her album, in fact it’s one of her career’s best. It was written by Solange and The Bama Boyz.

Why Don’t You Love Me – Beyoncé [Download]

List: Soundtrack, vol.2

music-notesjpgA continuum to this post.

ciEvery You Every Me – Placebo [Download]
Taken from the soundtrack of Cruel Intentions is one of my favorite songs of Placebo, a band that I have yet to fully discover their music. I love this bit:
“Like the naked leads the blind
I know I’m selfish I’m unkind
Sucker love I always find
Someone to bruise and leave behind”

deathproofChick Habit – April March [Download]
One of my all-time fave soundtrack songs! I always wait for Tarantino soundtrack, he’s the best. It’s only 2 minutes 7 seconds. I won’t say anything other than DOWNLOAD IT.

sm3Falling Star – Jet [Download]
Taken from Spider-Man 3, I immediatly fell in love with it even though it’s not my usual “cup of tea”.

dirFever – A Fine Frenzy [Download]
I looked up, down, left, right, and around for this song back then. I love the original, and I love Alison.

chicagoFunny Honey – Renée Zellweger [Download]
From the unparalleled musical Chicago, which I still think is the best movie musical. I wasn’t too keen on the song when I first watched the movie, but it has grown on me tremendously.

dreamgirlsMove – Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé & Anika Noni Rose [Download]
I featured Heavy before, and now Move. I love Hudson’s powerful voice on the song, plus it’s always nice to hear Beyonce only in the background, makes me think how papa knowles felt.

happyfeetHit Me Up – Gia Farrell [Download]
Happy Feet’s movie single. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine, I used to like it a lot when it first came out, it’s still special to me.

ptYou Belong To Me – Rose McGowan [Download]
Who knew Rose had a beautiful sultry voice? I love the lyrics.

dogmaStill – Alanis Morissette [Download]
From the movie Dogma (lol). It’s not my favorite Alanis soundtrack song but I featured my favorite many times ago (Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall In Love)) so it’s time for something new, it’s classic Alanis.

spiritFalling In Love Again (Can’t Help It) – Christina Aguilera [Download]
Best for last, this is one of Christina’s most sultry songs, not so much in the lyrics as much as the way she sings and the music. It’s 8 minutes long, it’s an established classic in MY book.

List: Soundtracks, vol.1

ostThis is a two parts post that’ll include my favorite movie-songs, tell me what you think when you listen to them, or if you already know them!

killbill1Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) – Nancy Sinatra [Download]
From the soundtrack of Kill Bill vol.1, this is the first song that plays in the movie, and believe it’ll be in your head until the end of the second movie. It’s not originally made for the movie, but the inclusion for it in the movie is of vital importance.

dreamgirlsHeavy – Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé & Anika Noni Rose [Download]
One of my favorite songs from the soundtrack of Dreamgirls, wish it was longer, not only 1:33 minutes. My favorite bit is: “You used to dance, instead of walk, you never had to talk, talk, talk!”

evitaYou Must Love Me – Madonna [Download]
Taken from Evita, let me just state something, I hate Madonna (Madonna the person, not the music), HATE her guts, but this song is undeniably beautiful (as is a lot of her music). I have yet to watch Evita, but it’s on my watchlist.

zoolanderLove To Love You Baby – No Doubt [Download]
A cover of Donna Summer’s megahit by No Doubt, which is unlikely, but it works in their favor, it’s an absolute delight!

enchantedSo Close – Jon McLaughlin [Download]
One of the best Disney movie-songs in a long while, it was nominated for an oscar, but sadly lost. It still remains one of my all-time favorite Disney songs.

junoAnyone Else But You – The Moldy Peaches [Download]
From Juno’s soundtrack, I bet most of you already know this song, it still sounds just as beautiful and fresh as it did when I first heard it.

romeoAre You Feelin’ Me – Aaliyah [Download]
Always, ending at high notes. Of the three Aaliyah songs on the soundtrack, this is my absolute favorite, by a mile. If you don’t know it, then get loadin’.
