Review: Game of Thrones

I’m glad I didn’t start watching Game of Thrones when it first aired on TV, because waiting a week for every new episode would’ve been torture. The show isn’t revolutionary or ground-breaking, but as far as TV shows go, Game of Thrones raises the bar a notch. Based on the book series A Song of  Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, the characters are brought to life by an astounding cast led by Sean Bean as Eddard Stark, the head of the Stark Hose, and the ever-so-beautiful Emilia Clark as Daenerys Targaryen (one of my favorite characters), the last of the Dragon-blood Targaryens. The story is too big and too complicated to mention in the review, but believe me, you won’t be disappointed with the depth and originality of the plot. HBO’s heads mentioned more than once their desire to have a hit show that’s appealing to all TV audiences, and Game of Thrones delivered one of the best debut numbers, and now is on course to be one of HBO’s biggest hits, alongside the sensational True Blood.

Game of Thrones scored 13 Primetime Emmy nominations, contributing to HBO’s total of 104 nominations, the most of any TV channel… for the 11th year in a row!

Bring it on!

TV: Moby Dick

Moby Dick, the Great American Novel, and Herman Melville’s debut, is getting the Hollywood treatment, but for… Err, TV. ENCORE (A premier television network) has unveiled its first-ever Encore Original programming: Tele München’s $25 million re-imagination of Herman Melville’s classic novel. The all-star cast include Oscar winner William Hurt (Into The Wild, A History of Violence) as the infamous Captain Ahab, Ethan Hawke (Gattaca, Before Sunrise) as first mate Starbuck, and Gillian Anderson (X-Files) as Ahab’s wife among others. The three-hour long TV series is set to air August 1st and 2nd.

The production looks excellent for a TV series, and the cast couldn’t be more perfect. The trailer reeks of the smell of Emmys. We just have to wait and see how it fairs.
