SOTD: Lost+ (With Jay-Z) – Coldplay

Song: Lost+ (With Jay-Z)
Artist: Coldplay
Album: Prospekt’s March – EP
Genre: Rock/Alternative
In short: “Lost” was released on Coldplay’s latest studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and it got the remix treatment on the Prospekt’s March EP—that followed that release—with Jay-Z delivering a heated verse that adds a different flavor to an already excellent number

SOTD: Sibto – Angham

Song: Sibto
Artist: Angham
Album: Sibto – Single
Genre: World
In short: Angham’s latest single was released through iTunes simultaneously with its radio premiere, a first in the Middle Eastern world. The song can’t be mistaken for someone else’s work, it’s classic Angham. “Sibto” was released to hold fans over until Angham finalizes her upcoming album.

WOMANIFESTO

SOTD: You Gave Me Nothing – Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.

Song: You Gave Me Nothing (Feat. Rose Elinor Dougall & Andrew Wyatt)
Artist: Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.
Album: Record Collection
Genre: Alternative/Hip-Hop
In short: Mark Ronson’s latest record saw him go back to his roots, producing an album more similar to his debut, Here Comes the Fuzz, than the glossy Versions. Featuring Rose Dougall and Andrew Wyatt, “You Gave Me Nothing” is a storming number that leaves little to be desired. The call-and-answer structure of the song finds both parties at odds, trying to understand each other.

Nostalgia: Tell Him – Lauryn Hill

Long story short: If I ever had to list my all-time favorite 10 songs, “Tell Him” would be on that list.

SOTD: I Hate That You Love Me – Diddy – Dirty Money

Song: I Hate That You Love Me
Artist: Diddy – Dirty Money
Album: Last Train To Paris
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
In short: On his latest record, Diddy outdid himself; his latest protege, all-girl group Dirty Money, stole the spotlight and shone brightly on their nation-debut alongside their mentor. Last Train To Paris is an underrated album, overshadowed by Diddy’s foolery outside of the music.

SOTD: Halcyon Days – Siobhán Donaghy

Song: Halcyon Days
Artist: Siobhán Donaghy
Album: Ghosts
Genre: Alternative/Pop
In short: The first member to disband from the Sugagabes, Siobhán Donaghy, has released two solo albums since parting ways with the other members. Her sophomore album saw her working with producer James Sanger, whose production credits include U2, Keane, and Dido. The ethereal “Halcyon Days” is a moody number dotted with rays of hope; Donaghy sings so delicately, as if the melody could be broken by a puff of air. Sound-wise, “Halcyon Days” is the kind of song you’d imagine mermaids singing deep down in the ocean.

SOTD: I Would Have Never Guessed – Sade

Song: I Would Have Never Guessed
Artist: Sade
Album: The Ultimate Collection
Genre: Soul
In short: A previously unreleased song, the piano-led “I Would Have Never Guessed” is a classic Sade number that’ll take listeners many years back upon first listen. “Is something this broken ever gonna fix? / If you ask me this question / I would have never guessed,” closes Sade Adu the number theatrically. The only drawback is its short length, clocking in at a little less than three minutes.

Remixtation: Judas – Lady Gaga

Needless of long introduction, Goldfrapp has revolutionized the dance/electro music scene in the UK for quite some time. “Judas”, one of the better tracks on Lady Gaga’s latest, got the remix treatment by none other than Goldfrapp themselves (Although it is probable that Allison didn’t touch it) and have successfully managed to reshape the song into something unrecognizable, in a good way. Download below and give it a listen.
