Who: Amel Larrieux. Genre: Soul, R&B, Neo-Soul. About: Let me start by saying that she’s like the lovechild of Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Jill Scott, Beyonce and SiA, yes SiA. She first started with ‘Groove Theory‘ a duo who emerged in the 90s, but then broke in ’99 I downloaded her first album ‘Infinite Possibilities” without any expectations at all, but within the first two seconds of the first track, I was a fan. The way she sings, the emotions behind each lyric, it was all impossible to dislike. Her second album’s opener ‘For Real‘ is sung in a way that’d make Mariah Carey blush, I have yet to listen thoroughly to that album to comment fairly. Her third album “Morning” forays into more experimental territories, with both the sound, and the phrasing of the lyrics, it’s still as lovable as her first album was. Her forth album “Lovely Standards” is solely consisted of Standard Jazz covers. I included a song from each album, but two of Morning, because they’re both lovely and one of the two is included in the soundtrack of Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married?‘ if a specific song is requested, please let me know!
